As tough as what 2016 has been, having to make changes, having to adapt to circumstances and having to overcome medical difficulties including surgical operations, perseverance has been absolute key in coping with most of these as well as overcoming some of the many other challenges.Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0Cape Town, South Africa-33.9248685 18.424055299999964-34.768186 17.133161799999964 -33.081551000000005 19.714948799999963tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-48088676731546049562016-06-30T21:12:00.000+02:002016-11-10T13:36:37.609+02:00Time to look back and take stock. It has been quite a while now since my last blog postings but it is not because of a lack of interest nor for making or finding the time to reflect on what has taken place over the many months that have since passed. To say that 2015 was a tough year would be putting it rather mildly yet each day that has also since passed in 2016, we were given a new day to take upon its challenges, its Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-3078945305011233042015-12-08T20:26:00.001+02:002015-12-09T20:33:27.514+02:00Crickey Moses, what happened to 2015They say the older you get the faster you were and that seems to apply to the years as well. The time has just absolutely flown by.
Well looking back to the last post made in October of 2014 I must say that a few things have changed. For one, the mighty 140Z was finally parked for good and was eventually sold off to a good guy who is smitten with Datsuns especially the B210 type. &Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-29097277375810545142014-10-29T14:04:00.002+02:002018-02-26T20:57:56.914+02:00So there we were.Wow its been such a long time since I have found the inclination let alone the time to continue my blog so now is perhaps as good a time as it will get.
The year 2013 ended with a only a reasonable amount of successes throughout the year for both of us all said and done but most certainly nothing to write home about. Probably the highlight of 2013 for me was my 3rd attempt with my Datti atDatti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-83195871768948678192013-08-25T12:04:00.000+02:002013-08-26T14:44:21.188+02:00Historic Motoring CircusThe time has come I believe where competitors that currently participate in classic/historic racing should take a drastic stand with regard to their future participation in today's ongoing historic circus. I do have my personal favorite bands, musicians and best artists of all time and am as happy to listen to 40 year old music as I am of the more modern day era compilations. Its been a while since I last posted anything new but we have been caught up with many other things among them work which without, almost everything would come to a halt. Since the season ended last year we have started on the new car project but have a very long long way to go still. As for the other cars (BRE, 140Z and the Datti) well they're standing literally where Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-7148436830702087252012-12-04T16:49:00.001+02:002012-12-04T17:49:06.684+02:00Double TroubleWell its been a while (just over 2 months in fact) that I last blogged anything but there was reason. You see during the month of September I suffered what is known as a '4th Nerve Palsy' which in layman's terms basically means I see double (trouble) when looking to my right as well as looking down. As a matter a caution I sat out for the October and November race meetings and hence there was Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-50026020719561870222012-10-11T19:55:00.000+02:002012-10-11T21:16:20.071+02:00The Datsun P510 - Just why it was so damn good.
I recently found this video made of the P510 BRE Datsun and I soon realized that what was already known, done and achieved on track as far back as 1972 may just put some myths, uncertainties and non-believer preposterous ideas to rest. Peter Brock of Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE) was a racing fanatic, an engineer with very high standards and along with the help of the Japanese, a Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-31590272467354278972012-10-08T18:47:00.000+02:002012-10-09T08:54:41.473+02:00A 'Lull' in racing. The last championship race that we competed in was held in August this year with only the non-championship Ford & Friends event playing host to many in September. While the event itself had highlights, the Datti-Brothers can't really say the same. Both of us were under the spell of a virus which hit both of us hard, long and took its toll in more ways than one. All efforts to ensure engine reliability were tried and tested and the motor of the 140Z was now transplanted back into the SSS. As if it was planned come race day during winter months and the forecast is depressing, demotivating yet our entry forms are timorously submitted, our entry fees duly paid and even our cars are prepped. The 140Z suffered bearing failure while the Datti holed a piston. On closer inspection it was analyzed to be oil starvation of the center main in the case of the 140Z while on the Datti it seems apparent that metal fatigue was the cause Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-67519450242946166162012-04-17T22:36:00.001+02:002012-04-17T22:36:32.633+02:00Seconds out, round 2.April 14th and time for the 2nd round of the classic car championship. With the first round being officially declared null and void due to administrative issues I am not sure of how this is yet to all play out in the end. What I do know is that slowly but surely its becoming more and more difficult to compete in an ever declining field let alone the personal costs associated with it Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-45983143371861460642012-03-21T22:17:00.000+02:002012-03-21T22:17:18.102+02:00To be, or Not to be.Well the 2012 championship season finally got underway for us albeit on a slightly wrong footing. By that I mean that we suffered quite extensive engine failure on the Datti on the Cape South Easter weekend (2 in fact) while the 140Z was of a slightly lesser nature, it too required attention, besides minor body work repairs. We thus resigned ourselves to the fact that both time and Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-10863335642254977322012-02-14T21:47:00.000+02:002012-02-14T21:47:48.169+02:00When you're HOT you're HOT!!It was a long wait and one that was in some ways a somewhat of a let down. A lot of work had be done and prepared for in order to make the annual Cape South Easter a success. What we did not truly anticipate was the exceptional and persistent hot weather conditions that prevailed and remained with us for the entire weekend.
Everything started going pear shaped from early on the the Friday Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-67036474626551356442012-01-26T20:06:00.000+02:002012-01-26T20:06:44.314+02:00Time is TightWith January already fast approaching the end, the same cannot be said about the amount of work 'Mr Datsun' has been doing throughout this entire month. As I alluded to in the previous months blog post, the modifications done to the old SSS to now resemble the 2-door 1970 BRE Datsun is something remarkable. A lot of work was done in order to finish it in time so as to be part of a car Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-91913875300177890762011-12-26T19:08:00.000+02:002011-12-26T19:08:41.305+02:00Ho Ho HoTis that time of the season and some much needed time we can now dedicate to our families and loved ones. Unfortunately those loved ones also include our race cars for they shall not be neglected, ever. As December slowly comes to an end and businesses and people start their holiday journeys, some still prefer to keep the nose to the grinding wheel until the very last minute in Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-41669151703007995452011-11-17T16:44:00.000+02:002011-11-17T16:44:01.360+02:00One, two is good enough.....for now!!What a season, what a year, what can I say.
Well for a start, I thoroughly enjoyed ever bit of this past seasons racing never once having any regrets or maybe we should have done something differently or maybe we could have tried something differently. Nope, none of that. What we set out to do we did and what we wanted to achieve we achieved. Better than that in this day and Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-24702135336246212802011-10-26T17:00:00.000+02:002011-10-26T17:00:44.199+02:00A 'Titanic' battle. After nearly 2 month since our last race the classic boys were rearing to go. A healthy field of entries were received and made it one of the biggest for the season. Meanwhile behind the scenes changes were in place since the East London away trip. Due to the length of the St Georges circuit, we had to use a five speed gearbox for the long straight of almost 1.8Km. This trip was planned close on to 9 or 10 months ago and it all finally came to a head on 27th August 2011 at the Prince Georges Circuit in East London, better know as East London GP track. Both our cars required that our ratios be changed as all calculations showed that we would Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-53566919335618828752011-08-09T09:32:00.000+02:002011-08-09T09:32:49.335+02:00Look Ma, no legs!!Murphy's law, if you plan something it probably won't happen, if you don't it probably will. As many would already know by now, this month sees the Ford & Friends tour taking place at the East London Grand Prix circuit this year and one I definitely don't want to miss this opportunity as it may not happen again. As such, I sacrificed the club races of the 23rd July as well as the Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-73969234303285516072011-07-05T09:41:00.000+02:002011-07-05T09:41:43.962+02:00Wet, Wet, WetAnother month has passed since the last race and again the Datsun's threw everything they could to torment us, but give up we didn't. Probably the easiest part was the overhauling and replacement of the gearbox on the 140Z, simple and straight forward. Then Mr Datsun decided that as I had done a good job on destroying the cylinder head on the SSS it would be far easier to fix the Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-23929860433405108922011-06-08T12:13:00.000+02:002011-06-08T12:13:50.624+02:00Snap, Crackle, PopAnother month had now past and the 4th June was now upon us. The Datti has until now been parked awaiting re parts and I simply did not have the funds to repair the engine, only to then strip have to strip it again and to then put the new race parts in and instead decide to give it a miss. My boet was not having any of this and more or less sort of forced me to drive the SSS while we Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-448246530040677664.post-2361476583665056842011-05-02T21:10:00.000+02:002011-05-02T21:10:21.900+02:00Revenge of the GREMLINSWell since the last update I can confirm that the camshaft was indeed stripped and that having eventually stripped the motor it was soon discovered the reason why the motor would not turn. Overnight the engine had obviously cooled and at some time the valve seat had dislodged itself and fell out preventing the valve from closing and as a result prevented the engine from turning. So, Datti-Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00727768446511886161noreply@blogger.com1
